In 1969 I graduated from high school. My guidance counselor told me that I wouldn’t get a good job without a college degree.
Turns out, I got a job as a photographer and a career in media.
When I wanted to move from photographer to director, my boss told me that I didn’t have the experience.
Turns out, I directed my own videos.
When I wanted to move from directing to production management, they said I didn’t have a financial degree.
Turns out, none was required.
From Production Manager I moved to Executive Producer.
I produced the news. I launched networks. I won awards.
Still they say you can’t. Still they say you won’t. Still they say you shouldn’t.
Turns out…
They can’t. They won’t. They shouldn’t.
Don’t listen to them. Don’t listen to they.
Turns out they don’t know.
“Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
